The New Zealand Racing Board is the organisation behind all New Zealand racing and betting. The New Zealand Racing Board was established in 2003 under the Racing Act to ister all racing and sports wagering in New Zealand. We are a major entertainment business with more than 165,00 TAB account holders and a retail network comprising more than 670 outlets.
We support betting on more than 76,00 domestic and imported thoroughbred, harness and greyhound races each season, as well as on a rapidly growing number of domestic and international sporting events. NZRB is also a significant supporter of sports in New Zealand in we provided 6. 1 million in commission payments to National Sporting Organisations, and paid out 2. The New Zealand Racing Board has a long history of leading and promoting the industry domestically as well as promoting New Zealand racing to overseas markets. NZRB has a proud legacy, stretching back to 1951 when the Totalisator Agency Board TAB was established as the sole betting operator in New Zealand. Throughout that decade the TAB became the fastest growing business in New Zealand's history and, over 60 years later, its early growth record remains unbeaten.
Grass roots sports are supported through the bets New Zealanders place on domestic and international sports events. Over 50 years after the creation of the TAB, NZRB was established by the Racing Act 2003. The Act, which governs us today, states that the primary purpose of NZRB is to provide effective governance for the racing industry, run a profitable betting business, promote and enhance the industry and generate long term profit for the benefit of racing.
